Beast Polish

This is Color Club Alias and can I just say how much I love this color.  Really, it's such a stunning, bright fuchsia with gorgeous flashes of purple. Unfortunately it is a beast polish that refuses to dry.   Maybe it's just me, but I have tried it two times with two different base coats and Seche Vite top coat and hours later it is still soft, and a hot mess of dents and scrapes.  What's more, as you can see from my photos, it's prone to shrinkage from what I assume is the top coat.  Shrinkage is not a problem I usually encounter, at least not to this extent.

The first time I used it, I started off with Orly Ridge Filler as my base coat, and three coats of Alias which, since it's rather a thin formula are all needed. You'd think a thinner formula would dry quicker right? Wrong.  When I noticed that it was exceptionally tacky after letting it sit for a while I topped it off with a coat of Seche. That surfaced dried it and it seemed to set things up pretty well so I went about my way with my usual care that doesn't cause too many issues, but about an hour later I looked at my nails and they were a wrinkled mess,  and even after that period of time, the Seche was dry but Alias was still wet underneath, I could literally move the polish around on my nail.  I thought that maybe Orly and Color Club didn't like to be mixed and off it came.

Second round, I used OPI's Ridge Filler as my base coat, again, three coats of Alias with about a minute dry time between coats, instantly followed by a coat of Seche.  While they dried a bit better,  I had massive shrinkage at the tips, and a couple of hours later I was still able to make deep dents in it with my  nails.  You'll notice that there are no pictures of my thumb, that's because  there's huge gouges in it.  

I've been using a the ridge filler base coats because they seem to forestall the staining of my nails better than the more clear bases, but I'm wondering if that's the reason that it's not drying.  Even so, I've not had this problem with any other polishes.  Because I love the color I may bite the bullet and try it again either with a clear base or maybe even without a base coat. 

So have any of you had this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. 

Put Some Glitter On It

I need to do more layering.  I realized that I have two bins of glitters/topcoats and hardly ever use them.  Maybe a topcoat week is in order.

I wanted to bling out my Secret Rendezvous a bit and found this NYX  Starry Silver Glitter top coat that went perfectly with it's little lavender and blue hex's in a holo silver glitter base.  I just let the hex's lie where they would rather than trying to place them myelf. This is two coats.

 I like glitter polishes once they've sat a bit, especially when they have larger bits in them. I know a lot of people swear by the toothpick and fish method, but I think the thicker consistency  makes it a lot easier to get get the bits on the brush and thereby to your nail.  Any goopyness can easily be smoothed out with a nice top coat.

How about a Secret Rendezvous?

I showed you Color Club's Alter Ego collection that I picked up at Ross for $7.99.  I'm finally getting around to trying them.

This is Secret Rendezvous.  It's a lovely pale lavender that I really quite like. It reminds me of lilac petals, where they flare out from the little trumpets.  After the daffodils have bloomed, lilacs are my favorite spring flower.  I adore their scent and wished they bloomed all summer long.

This is three rather thick coats that got a bit dinged because I was over eager to do my clean up.  I started when the polish was still wet rather than letting it dry so I have some brush marks in there.  Oops.

This went on really easy.  I was afraid when I put the first coat on because it was so sheer.  I did get a little bit of bubbling on my pinky finger that I'm not sure the cause of, but other than that it came out quite lovely.

Color Club and OPI - A Dynamic Duo (pic heavy)

I wanted to have a little bit of fun so I grabbed Color Club's Volt of Light.

 Holy Moley, that's bright!!!

 Truth be told, I stopped counting how many coats this is after I reached the fourth one. 

 It applies quite nicely but it looks a bit sparse. 

It has a lovely green shimmer to it though that I just adore.  It doesn't like to come out for pictures though, this was the best I could get, you may want to click it bigger.  

Let's add a little Black Shatter to the mix now!

 Zinggggggggggg!!!

 It makes me think of the new school crossing signs they have now. 

 I'm loving the way the Shatter worked on my nails. 

 Can you see that green shimmer coming up through?

Color Club - Resort to Red

Bleh, I have a horrid head and chest cold and am beyond miserable so forgive my lack of posting.  I haven't forgotten that I need to throw a bit of a bash, I just need to get back on my feet. 

I will admit that currently I have no polish on my nails, the smell sends me into coughing fits.  And get this, I bashed my thumb up pretty good somehow (don't you just hate when you can't recall how you injured yourself?) so it's all bruised and nasty looking.

I do have some pics that have been sitting in limbo for whatever reason so I'm going to use those as some short and sweet fillers until I'm feeling more human again.

Color Club Rule Breaker

Ever just feel "meh" about a polish? I mean for no good reason. Not that it looks horrid or anything. Maybe it's just a mood thing but that's where I'm at with Color Club's Rule Breaker, just "meh".

It's actually a really pretty teal that leans more to the green side, and the application (two coats here) was nice and smooth, no streaks. This was the last polish I've bought in months! Ahheeeeee...polish purchasing withdraws!!!

Actually, the more I look at it, trying to figure out why I don't care for it, the more I'm liking it. :)

Yeah, it was just a mood thing.

Color Club 'With Abandon' (Giveaway?)

Pardon my pictures, they were done in late afternoon sunlight. I'd finished painting them late in the day and knew I had to take pictures while they were still pretty or they'd be hammered by the next day. I don't know what I do, but my mani's never stay pretty past the first hour or so.

A rather quick post today. I may have mentioned that I have military duty this week so my nails are being neglected. I was proud of myself for managing to rub some Burt's Bees cuticle cream in this afternoon while I was standing around. They really needed is, I've had to trim off three hangnails in the last couple of days. Since I'm not polished I pulled this out of my un-posted archives that I keep just for such occasions. So, on with the show.

I just wanted to bring your attention to a lovely fall color. With Abandon is a black jellee with tons of brown/copper/gold micro-glitter. This is actually one of the polishes that I got for giving away because I liked mine so much I had to get some lucky reader their own bottle. Aren't I just a sweety?

Application was quite easy and although the first coat was a wee bit streaky, it all balanced out though and looks just lovely if you ask me.

Color Club Nothing but Truffle

We had about an hour of sun today, otherwise it's been overcast and rainy. But with that bit of sun I managed some pictures so as promised, here is Nothing but Truffle. I decided that I'm categorizing it as a chocolaty red, very deep and very rich. What do you think?

Did you notice? You're getting to see my before now never seen right hand! (Pardon the "I forgot to moisturize" cuticles.) The reason being that I have another mani going on my left hand that was also waiting on pictures. That and a tutorial for the look will be my next post.
Anyway, This is actually three coats of polish, all which applied beautifully. I forgot to do a quick dry top coat last night and woke up with some dings and sheet marks hence the third coat but if you were careful, this could almost be a one coat polish. It's a little on the thick side but it's not unmanageable. If you're looking for something dark with a hidden shimmer to it I think this would work well for Konading.

Off topic, I was hanging out on my computer last night and got interrupted. Apparently Toulouse thought I needed a break.

Revv-ing it up

I picked up Color Club Revvolution a while ago but it's such a perfect base for fall/Halloween that I'm going to post it now. After all, 'tis the season!
It's really nice and smooth going on, this is two coats over my usual OPI Ridge Filler base. The holo is there but not terribly strong, you kind of have to look for it. If it weren't for that bit of color it would remind me of well worn asphalt especially when there isn't any direct light.
So I have military duty all this week so I'm going to try and get some quick Halloween mani looks done on my down time. I can't guarantee that I'll be consistent but I'll try .
